In 2023, the JTJ Scholarship was established by Judge Terri Jamison, a Franklin University graduate who has become an Ohio Court of Appeals Judge. The scholarship recognizes single parents pursuing an associate or undergraduate degree from an accredited Colleges or University in central Ohio.
Single parents account for over 13.6 million households, raising over 21 million children. Single-parent mothers are among the most disadvantaged groups in the U.S. with 30% living below the poverty line. Education can help reduce poverty by improving gender equality and increasing individual income. Although most single parent households are headed by females, the scholarship is also open to single fathers.
